Slow Fashion vs. Fast Fashion

When we go shopping, the first thing we see is an item that we like. It is uncommon that we think about how ethical and sustainable the product is before purchasing. The sad truth is that a lot of the common stores that we shop at for clothes fall under the umbrella of fast fashion, which has a real negative impact on the environment through carbon emissions.

Fast fashion plays a massive part in the destruction and pollution of the environment. It is an amazing feeling to see clothing items that we like at such a low cost, but the reality of what the item in your closet is doing to the environment is a tough pill to swallow.

So, what is fast fashion actually? It is a business model that utilizes cheap materials and labor to produce an incredible amount of clothing in a short period of time.  In the end, fast fashion not only has a negative effect on the environment, but the working conditions are also generally harmful for the employees.

Slow fashion aims to better the environment while providing great pieces of clothing. It strives to use locally produced, biodegradable fabrics that have little to no negative effects on the environment. One of the biggest issues with fast fashion is its lack of sustainability. According to Sustainable Jungle, “every single second, the equivalent of one garbage truck of clothes is making its way to a landfill or to be burned. This is enough to fill up 1.5 Empire State Buildings every single day.” By buying dasFlow clothing, we are leaving our planet better than the way we found it all while still being fashionable. A lot of fast fashion lacks the use of non-recyclable products. At dasFlow, it is of the utmost importance to be environmentally conscious. We need to ensure that we take care of our planet, and we can do so one clothing item at a time.
